THE 5 PRINCIPLES OF
MINDFUL HIKING

  • Connect with nature: Take time to connect with nature by pausing to appreciate the intricate beauty of a flower or the majesty of a mountain. Feel the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, and the coolness of a stream. Feel a sense of connection and harmony with the natural world.
     

  • Focus on the present moment: Join on a silent walk and pay attention to your breath, the sensation of your feet on the ground, and the sights and sounds around you. Notice the colors, textures, and shapes of the trees, rocks, and other natural features.
     

  • Practice gratitude: Take a few moments to reflect on the natural beauty around you and express gratitude for the opportunity to be in such a stunning environment. You may wish to say a silent prayer or simply express gratitude in your mind.
     

  • Meditate: Find a quiet spot in nature and sit comfortably, focusing on your breath. Allow your thoughts to come and go without judgment or attachment - simply observe. You may wish to focus on a particular intention or affirmation, such as peace, love, or compassion. 
     

  • Express creativity: Engage in a creative activity such as sketching, painting, photographing or writing, inspired by the natural surroundings. Allow your creative expression to flow freely, without judgment or self-criticism.
